- Whether you are a family of two or seven, this is an absolute MUST! Set a grocery budget to help guide your grocery shopping throughout the month!
- Personally, I have a set a monthly grocery budget for my family of nine! We aim to spend $500 for all our groceries including produce, meat and all grocery-related items! I use a simple notebook to keep track of our spendings daily and weekly! If you want to have a closer look at my grocery spendings... follow me over at my Instagram to see all my grocery hauls every single month!
- There's a myth that a budget limits you to how much you can spend, but that is so NOT the case! A grocery budget provides a goal and guideline for how much you can spend... and YOU get to set it! Pay attention to how much your family typically spends on groceries and try to challenge yourself to lower your budget each month!
- I will not say that your family needs to spend $300 or $400 a month because every family is so different with their diet limitations and needs. Do what works for YOUR family!
- Many people often take this tip, and flip it on its head. Rather than making your shopping lists according to what you want to make for meals, do the opposite!
- Instead, plan what you will make for meals based on the weekly sales happening in your local area! Grocery stores vary greatly by region, so be sure to check the weekly sales happening at your local grocery stores to see what is on promotion each week!
- Once you know what's on sale, plan your meals around that! It'll save you not only money, but also time and headache trying to come up with things to make!
- And don't worry - most stores naturally rotate their sale items each week, so most likely, you won't be eating the same items every single week :) They do the planning for you!
- Before you head out to pick up your groceries for the week or month, make sure to look through your fridge and freezer to see what you already have on hand! Plan your meals around what you already have before you go out and get more groceries!
- Also, eat your leftovers to minimize waste and save! This is a big one to not only help the environment, but also your wallet!
- Chances are that you will not finish everything in all the meals you make during the week, so a great way to take advantage of that is to plan eating leftovers in your meal plan! It'll minimize the amount of waste that goes in the trash AND will stretch your groceries budget for that week as well!
- Buying your staple items like eggs, milk, and bread in bulk will not only help you save money in your groceries budget, but it will also save you lots of time since these items are a constant must-have in your home!
- You can usually save a lot by shopping these kinds of items from stores like Sam's Club or Costco, but ALSO Amazon Fresh!
- Amazon Fresh is Amazon.com's latest extension where you can shop housands of groceries and household essentials available for same-day or next-day delivery right to your doorstep (available in select areas right now). You'll save a ton of items by buying your staple items - and without having to leave your house! A plus!
- Not only does Amazon Fresh have digital coupons to help you save on your staple items, but it also saves you money by reducing the likelihood of making any impulse buys while shopping in-stores! Even the samples at wholesale clubs at Sam's Club or Costco may lure you in to buy something you don't need... ;)
I hope these tips help YOU save BIG on your groceries!
